THE LAST DAY AT BAKS

18 March 2016. It's a cool morning. The stranglehold of the prolonged drought in this area is a thing of the past due to heavy ☔ in the past few days. This has brought much relief and high expectations for all the people in this area, which is regarded as the 🍞 basket of the country ,producing maize 🌽 and sunflower 🌻 .

Today is a special day for my wife ,Elizabeth ,(Leelamma ),who is retiring at the end of this month .In fact ,this is her last working day because today the schools are closing for the Easter holidays .She has been the Principal of Bakolobeng Secondary School 🏫 since January ,2015 .I retired in 2014,but I used to go to the school with her ,offering some random assistance .

The distance from Delareyville to Gannalagte village is 35 Kms .Every day ,we leave at 6.45 a.m .
Late -arrival is not in our dictionary .I cover the distance in 30 -35 minutes .The journey has three stages .The first 14 kms is excellent national road ,where one can even drive blindfolded at 120kms or more ,because the road is straight and traffic 🚥 is very little .The second stage is a 7 -kms rural tarred road .The last part is a 14 -Kms gravel road ,in a very bad condition .Actually ,it's not suitable for cars .The surface is like solid rock .In spite of the hard conditions ,I don't 😡 because of some other factors that compensate for the hardship .
Today the weather is unusual .In this area ,fog is unusual .It appears on one or two days per year .Today ,thick fog covered the whole area ,masking all the beautiful things on both sides of the road .The most interesting thing is that ,there are no 🏡 or people seen on both sides of the road .On the right side of the rural road is Barberspan Lake and Bird 🐦 Sanctuary .Early morning is the time when birds and animals appear .Ostriches and antelopes can be seen roaming within the fence of the Sanctuary .There are hares ,wild 🐷 ,mongoose ,foxes etc seen occasionally .A variety of birds are seen every day .Last week ,I saw a rare 🐦 ,the Secretary bird, which appears in the national emblem of South Africa .
Every day ,kada are seen frantically crossing the road .

Last week ,I saw a stray  wild pig, which had somehow ventured outside the Sanctuary fence, and was trying to find a hole in the fence. It was great fun watching him running parallel to the road .After some seconds ,he found a hole ,and squeezed himself through it .

Hundreds of cattle ,🐑 and goats grazing in the vast fields evoke a sense of serenity and calm .During heavy ☔ ,temporary lakes are formed ,and wild ducks flock to those lakes to enjoy .All the birds and small animals are very sensitive ,and if you stop the car to have a close look ,they sense danger and move away .

We joined Bakolobeng Secondary School in 1988 .Today ,we leave with full satisfaction and wonderful memories .

A POEM FOR BAKOLOBENG STUDENTS

A  poem   for  Bakolobeng    students  April   25th   was  a memorable   day  at  Bakolobeng   Secondary   School for   many   reasons. It  was the  last working  day of the  month  due to  a  long   weekend and  extended  special  school  holidays. For  me and  for Mrs. Visser, the  Principal, it was  our  last day  in our  careers. By  a  lucky coincidence, it was  my birthday. I   heard  that  the teachers, students  and the School  Governing  Body members  had  planned  a  special assembly  to  honour us. I thought  that the assembly  was  after  lessons, but  they  wanted to ...

The attack on Oommen Chandy-a Pravasi's perspective ( opinion)

The  attack on  Oommen  Chandy- a  Pravasi's  perspective   ( opnion ) The vicious attack  on Honourable  Chief Minister  Sri Oommen Chandy  at  Kannur, allegedly by CPM goondas, has shocked and  saddened  civilised , peace-loving  Malayalees  in India  and abroad. But , unfortunately, there are some people ,who are uncivilised anarchists  who celebrate ,rejoice, and justify  the cowardly and barbaric attack  on the Chief Minister. They are happy that , at least, one of them was able to injure Ommen Chandy, and of course there are others who regret that he escaped death. Such people can be found on the social media, making crude jokes about  Sri  Chandy's injury. It's  a true reflection of the scum that are baying for the blood of Oommen  Chandy. Some gutter channels play second fiddle to these  barbarians ! But  every  decent Malayalee...
