PALA--what   a  beautiful   name!            O,be  some  other  name! What's  in  a  name ?That  which  we call a  rose By   any  other name would  smell as  sweet; So  Romeo  would, were  he  not  Romeo  called                 (  Romeo  and Juliet,Act 2 scene 2 ) I  beg  to  disagree  with  Juliet  in the matter  of name changes. Her argument  may  be valid  in the case  of  Romeo, but in the  case  of our  beloved  town  Pala, the name is sacrosanct;indeed that  name is the  soul  of  Pala.Try  any  other name;you...

In  Kerala, if  a  woman's  gold  chain ( or duplicate, by mistake) is snatched  by  a  thief, either  on foot  or on  a bike, that  news item  is  flashed  on  the  myriad  TV  channels in big  red  font, as  "BREAKING  NEWS ", and  all  the  TV  crews  rush  to  the  spot, vying to  report the event  as  interestingly  as  possible  for  the  millions  of  Malayalees at  home and  abroad. Not  so in...

Prior to the invasion ( it was not a war: it was one -sided )China  and  India     had  signed  many  non-agression  pacts, and  the slogan " Indi-Chini Bhai,Bhai '     was  recited  enthusiastically  by  Indians. The Chinese  had  hoodwinked  the     then Prime  Minister, Jawaharlal  Nehru, into  believing  that  the  Chinese...
