Vacations usually end up in sadness because, after all the excitement of homecoming, reuniting with loved ones, the travels, the good food, celebrations etc,the day of saying goodbye arrives. It's time to pack up our belongings and to say a painful goodbye. As for the belongings, there's a weight limit, but for fond memories there's no limit. That baggage is free, thanks to human relationships. Hundreds of thousands Malayalees experience this due to our overseas connections.Nowadays it's very hard to find people without any overseas connections.
MrsKurian and I had a good vacation of 22 days in Kerala.from 19 December to 10
January. The days were few,but
the experiences were fantastic, sweet experiences with
the coating of vacation. Our travels were within Kerala only, the farthest places being Kozhikode and Trivandrum.
Christmas was celebrated at Kozhikode with my elder daughter Kuleena, her husband
Ajay, and their children Dennis and Diya.
On 23 December, we travelled to Kozhikode by Malabar Express. Ajay was at the station to welcome us.He had hired his children 's school minibus to transport us because we were too many to fit in a car.We were six passengers, including my second daughter Praveena and her three children. The bumpy ride to Paroppady was a nice experience, a clue of what the children experience daily.
The grandchildren were reunited.Four girls and one boy.
Dennis (10),being the eldest and the only boy,was a sort of referee or Mediator whenever disputes and fights broke out.He often gave me confidential feedback of what was going on.
I love children fully when they sleep. Troubles start when they wake up.It's an uphill task to keep them busy. The problem is that they don't stick to any single thing for long. For instance, if they are allowed to watch TV,they feel bored after some time, and abandon it.As a grandparent,I have to find new entertainment for them.
On the24th,the camera crew of Desbabhimani came to the flat for
a photo shoot associated with Christmas greetings on their
front page. Diya's photo appeared on the front page on Christmas day. (to be continued)
