                 PALA--what   a  beautiful   name!            O,be  some  other  name! What's  in  a  name ?That  which  we call a  rose By   any  other name would  smell as  sweet; So  Romeo  would,were  he  not  Romeo  called                 (  Romeo  and Juliet,Act 2 scene 2 ) I  beg  to  disagree  with  Juliet  in the matter  of name changes.Her argument  may  be valid  in the case  of  Romeo,but in the  case  of our  beloved  town  Pala, the name is sacrosanct;indeed that  name is the  soul  of  Pala.Try  any  other name;you  are  bound  to fail in making  any  impression at all;eg Palakkad,Kampala,Palampur,Palava -yal, Palayur etc.The name Pala  is pregnant  with  connotations and clues  about  our  history, culture, psyche, mindset and  so on.There's no  place like Pala and  no name sweet  as Pala.
